Spring plowing to begin Monday in Yellowstone

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. - Park officials plan to begin closing roads to snowmachines on Sunday so spring plowing can begin.

The route from Mammoth to Norris Junction will close Sunday, followed on Tuesday by the roads from Norris Junction to Madison Junction and from Norris Junction to Canyon, according to park officials.

All remaining groomed roads will close March 9.

All road closures will go into effect starting at 9 p.m.

In conjunction with the road closures, Saturday night will be the last night for lodging at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. The dining room will close after breakfast Sunday.

The Mammoth gas station is scheduled to close at 5 p.m. March 8, which is also the last night for lodging at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge.

The Snow Lodge dining room will close after breakfast March 9 and the Old Faithful Geyser Grill and Gift Shop will close after dinner that day.

The Mammoth General Store and Mammoth Clinic remain open year-round.

The road from the North Entrance at Gardiner, Mont., to the Northeast Entrance at Cooke City, Mont., is open to wheeled vehicles year-round, weather permitting.
