Court releases names of illegal snowmobilers in Yellowstone

The names of 24 people who pleaded guilty to snowmobiling in closed areas of Yellowstone National Park have been made public.

No Montana residents are among the names, though some Idaho dwellers made the illegal excursions.

All violators faced fines or restitution of up to $600 and have been banned from the park for up to five years.

Fines varied because in some cases the violations were more egregious, with people riding several miles into closed areas, according to Don White, who prosecuted the cases for the U.S. attorney's office.

Park rangers stepped up their enforcement last winter.

Because of unusual rules in the Wyoming federal court district, the names were not released until the cases had been cleared. Most were finalized with a plea bargain.

Here are the names and hometowns. Some fines are higher because they included penalties for DUI or other offenses.
