PEGGY H. McLEOD
Peggy Hubbard McLeod, 66, of Bozeman passed away Oct. 16, 2006, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. She was born April 21, 1940, in Steamboat Springs, Colo., the daughter of Robert Henry and Betty Eleanor (Alfred) Hubbard.
Peggy was raised in Steamboat Springs, where she graduated from high school. She earned a bachelor's degree in botany from Colorado State University in 1961 and also studied toward a master's degree in math at the University of Colorado.
She married Bruce McLeod in 1961 in Steamboat Springs.
Peggy moved to Bozeman in the early 1970s with her family. A few years later they bought the Spear Lazy U Ranch in Wilsall, where they spent summers and most weekends. She loved the ranch and riding her four-wheeler around it.
Peggy was on the executive committee for the Upper Shields Valley Watershed Association, was licensed in herbicide application, and gave many seminars on control of noxious weeds. She was recognized as Landowner of the Year in 2006 by the Montana Wildlife Federation.
When she was not spending time at the ranch she was involved in the Bozeman community. She was a Girl Scout leader for more than 13 years. In the past, she also volunteered for Eagle Mount's ski program and at Bridger Alternative School tutoring students in math and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce McLeod of Bozeman; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert and Diane McLeod of Boulder, Colo.; grandson, Connor McLeod of Boulder, Colo.; her daughter and son-in-law, Cam and Donny Harrel of Brier, Wash.; grandson and granddaughter, Easton and Brooklyn Harrel of Brier, Wash.; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and John Todd of Anchorage, Alaska.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Peggy's life will be held in the summer at the family ranch in Wilsall.
