An evening with The Montana Mandolin Society Valentine weekend
The Montana Mandolin Society will perform its seventh annual Bozeman concert at the Willson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11.
Founded in 1999, The Montana Mandolin Society is a Grammy-nominated touring mandolin ensemble based in Bozeman. They have performed in concert across the country and at international festivals and mandolin conventions in their seven-year history. Their four acclaimed CDs are currently getting international radio airplay.
The Montana Mandolin Society's music retains the flavor of an early 1900s' classical ensemble while playing a new contemporary style of chamber music drawing from bluegrass, celtic and jazz roots. National Public Radio's Linda Wertheimer recognized this music as "The Montana Sound," music worth applauding and saluting as a Bozeman original.
Expect a highly eclectic concert set written and arranged by musicians from The Society. The instrumentation includes the mandolin family -- mandolin, mandola, and mandocello -- as well as hammered dulcimer, cello, violin, bass and percussion.
Doors open at 7 p.m. in the Willson Auditorium. Tickets are $16 at Cactus in advance and $17 at the door the night of the concert. Will-Call is available for out-of-town guests.
