Montana dancers awarded places at Kirov summer camp
Over 60 dancers from all over Montana traveled to Helena and Bozeman to attend Youth Arts in Action’s highly successful ballet master classes with Madame Angelina Armeiskaya from the Kirov Academy of Ballet.
Armeiskaya awarded eight Montana students places in the 2008 Summer Program at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C. Awardees include Jennifer Bummer, 11, The Dance Center, Bozeman; Jenny Johnson, 15, Missouri River Dance, Great Falls; Julia Fisher, 11 and Laura Haller, 14, Queen City Ballet, Helena; Julian MacKay, 10 and Natalia Nelson, 12, private students of Sallyann Mulcahy, Director, Artisan Dance, Helena; and Emily Olson, 16, and Nancy Rich, 11, Bozeman. Laura Haller, Julian MacKay and Jennifer Bummer were awarded scholarships to attend the 2008 Kirov Academy Summer Program.
Armeiskaya was trained at the famed Vaganova Academy in Russia and brought to Montana the rich legacy of the great Russian tradition of the Mariinsky Ballet. The Kirov Academy’s students have gone on to become principal dancers and soloists in major companies world-wide, such as Michelle Wiles, Principal, American Ballet Theatre, Vanessa Zahorian Principal San Francisco Ballet, Montana-born Maria Sascha Khan of Staatsballet Berlin; male solists Sascha Radetsky of American Ballet Theatre and freelance soloist Rasta Thomas.
