Madison County announces art project
The Madison County Economic Development Council is putting out a call to artists for its “Fish Out of Water” art sculpture project. Similar to projects such as “Buffalo Roam” in West Yellowstone, “Grizzly Prowl” in Missoula and “Horse of Course” in Billings, this project is designed to bring added value to Madison County, added awareness and appreciation for art, and to raise funds to be split between MCEDC, a non-profit group dedicated to the promotion and economic development of Madison County, and local charities in the area of where the sculpture will be displayed.
Paintings on the sculpture must stay within the parameters of nature, Montana history/heritage or wildlife. Artists are asked to submit a drawing depicting their vision of the finished sculpture (both sides), a brief resume, and full contact information. All applications are due by May 30, and will be juried and selected by June 12. Artists will be paid a stipend to complete their work. Sixteen artists will be chosen for the project, and will then be responsible for picking up the sculpture, storing the sculpture while being painted, and delivering the finished product to Ennis. Artists will have approximately eight weeks to complete the project n June 23 n Aug. 15.
The sculptures will be unveiled at the Madison River fly fishing festival over Labor Day in 2008, and will be auctioned to the general public over Labor Day in 2009. Application packets and more information can be requested by calling Robin Blazer at 406-682-5907 or Sam Korsmoe at 406-682-5923 or emailing info@madcoedc.org.
