Hill sends in Bill

Former President Bill Clinton is coming to Bozeman Saturday to campaign for his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, who is locked in a tight race for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States.

ERIK PETERSEN/CHRONICLE Anne Millbrooke and a handful of other Montana for Hillary supporters wave signs at the corner of Main and 19th Streets in Bozeman on Thursday to show support for their favorite Democratic presidential candidate.
Bill Clinton will appear at 1 p.m. at the Shroyer Gym on the Montana State University campus. Doors will open about 12:30 p.m., according to campaign spokeswoman Charla Bailey, and seating will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The gym, which is at 900 W. Grant St., directly north of the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, holds about 2,000 people, according to MSU spokesman Tracy Ellig.

Attendees shouldn’t bring large bags or bottles and no outside signs will be allowed, Bailey said.

Clinton’s “Solutions for America” event comes in the wake of Monday’s rally for Sen. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton’s rival in the race for the party’s nomination.

“Montana is seeing excitement and energy in this campaign season like we’ve rarely, if ever, seen before,” Montana Democratic Party Chairman Dennis McDonald said Thursday in a prepared statement.

Bill Clinton has been campaigning actively for his wife across Montana, which, along with South Dakota, holds the last presidential primary in the nation on June 3.

Following the Bozeman appearance Saturday, Bill Clinton will appear at the Fergus High School gymnasium in Lewistown at 4:30 p.m. and the Custer County District High School gymnasium in Miles City at 6:45 p.m.

This is the first time in many years that presidential candidates have paid so much attention to Montana, and it shows the highly competitive nature of the race, although some pundits say an Obama victory appears inevitable.

Hillary Clinton maintains she is the best candidate to run against Republican Sen. John McCain in the November general election because she has shown she has the ability to win big states with large blocks of electoral votes.

At stake in Montana are 17 delegates and eight superdelegates.

" Dear Montana: My vote already has been accounted for here in Pennsylvania. I am supporting Hillary Clinton all the way till the end of this primary for several important reasons; Americans' need to keep setting the example of what democracy should and could be for ourselves and our allies around the world, by demonstrating our values and choices through the now very delicate voting process. (Florida
& Michigan for example)
Hillary Clinton is an established front runner who can heal our country, the economy, establish the beginnings of peace in the Middle East and overall see that American families true needs are being met. Please, please, please Montana make your vote count and stand up for someone who will rise up for all Americans.
Sincerely, Denise from Pennsylavania
