Road work continues in and around Yellowstone

Road work continues this week on the Beartooth Highway reconstruction project, and on some roads in Yellowstone National Park.

On the Beartooth, work this week includes clearing, grubbing and pipe culvert installation.

From Yellowstone’s northeast entrance up through Cooke City, motorists can expect the existing asphalt or gravel surfaces.

Motorists should be aware of workers and equipment along the highway and on Lulu Pass Road. Those wishing to park in the area are encouraged to do so in the turnout along U.S. Highway 212 and not on Lulu Pass Road because of limited space.

Also, motorists should expect delays as long as 30 minutes on U.S. 212 east of the park entrance. Those delays will occur from 6 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Friday, June 27. No delays are expected for Saturday and Sunday.

Inside Yellowstone, most roads are now open for the season, though there are some closed for road work and others will see intermittent delays. Road work areas in the park include:

- The North Rim Drive will remain closed all summer to vehicles and pedestrians; but the Canyon Village-Artist Point road is open.

- At Grant Village, from mid-June to early July, expect 30-minute delays. Traffic will be piloted through a work zone during the day, returning to two lanes each evening.

- At Tower Junction in July and August, expect 30-minute delays. Traffic returns to two lanes each evening.

- At Mammoth Hot Springs, from mid-August to early September, expect 30-minute delays. Traffic returns to two lanes each evening.

- And parkwide, chip-seal work will be handled in July and August, starting in the Tower area, then moving to the Canyon-Fishing Bridge segment, then Grant Village. Expect 30-minute delays. Traffic will be piloted through work zone. Traffic will be piloted through work zone during the day, returning to two lanes each evening.
